Think your phone is safe from viruses? That you fear nothing? Think again. Indeed, some applications take pleasure in taking your money, or installing malicious software. We take stock with you to help you get rid of it for good.
Applications infected with Joker malware!
We know more thanks to the cybersecurity company Padreo. She decided to investigate. It turned out to be very successful. Indeed, the company has discovered that four applications available on the Google Play Store are infected with Joker software. However, the latter steals users’ private information, but also their money. We are talking about 100,000 people here since this is the number of downloads recorded.
But how can an application, admittedly contaminated by software, steal money from users? It’s quite simple. By creating hidden subscriptions that take money. The problem is that as these subscriptions are concealed, the subscriber only realizes this once the first transfer has been made.. And we are not talking about small subscriptions for less than ten euros. Often, it is rather 50 euros that are deducted. Also, thanks to the malware, apps can take silent screenshots. They thus have access to private passwords.
That’s not all. Joker also allows other applications to be installed on the phone, but in the background. You don’t realize anything. However, they are often infected by other, more powerful software. These software send scam offers directly to the phone.
How to avoid downloading the affected applications?
Fortunately, there are a few ways to avoid being tricked. Because for all the people who have a phone but do not have the required knowledge, it is very difficult not to be fooled. We therefore advise, first of all, to consult the developer’s profile on the Play Store. If you only see one app, better beware. Indeed, developers who have a (bad) idea in mind generally create one application per account.
Don’t forget to read the privacy policy. The shorter it is, the riskier it is. We simply advise you to rely on known applications, or reputable and reliable sites. It’s the best way not to be fooled. Also, when you download an app, it asks for your permission for different accesses. Do not hesitate to refuse if you find that an application has nothing to do with your microphone, for example. Why is she asking you for access, then? Beware!
How to remove a virus from your phone?
Android devices are particularly vulnerable. This is why it is advisable to have antivirus software first. This is the surest way to be safe. But what if you notice a virus on your phone? At first, restart the phone in safe mode. Then open Settings and browse the list of recently installed apps. Why ? To notice suspicious activity. Uninstall any software you think is questionable. Finally, activate Play Protect, by Google. Scan your phone as often as possible. Today, they all offer in-house software that cleans phones.
You know it now. To best protect your phone, only download apps that are verified. Pay attention to the permissions you make when you install them. Refuse without hesitation those that seem strange to you. If you receive spam messages, never click on the links sent. Automatically delete them. Finally, do system updates when they are available. New systems fix bugs and improve security. Always have the latest version.
Thanks to these different tips, you put all the chances on your side to be safe. It would be silly to see his bank account empty because of a simple application on his phone, don’t you think? So be careful!
