The Redmi brand is known in Europe for being a line of Xiaomi products. We then speak of a sub-brand. However, the Chinese group has the ambition to make it an independent brand. For this, he is betting on a partnership with Mercedes for their new flagship.
Beware of the extended name: Xiaomi Redmi K50 Ultra Extreme Edition. Between us, we will soberly call it Redmi K50 Ultra. This model should play the role of flagship of the Redmi brand, it was announced alongside Xiaomi’s Mi Fold 2.
A very serious technical sheet
The Redmi K50 Ultra in extreme edition has a processor extreme. This is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC found at Samsung, but also on the latest Asus. With this SoC, the specificity is that each major manufacturer uses a special cooling system. It also features LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Since the Redmi sub-brand is known for its more accessible prices, Xiaomi has decided to use an unusual screen in this model, with a definition of 2712 × 1220 pixels, called by the company 1.5K. It is supposed to be the perfect compromise between the sharpness of the displayed image (446 PPI) and energy saving (the matrix is supposed to consume a little more than a Full HD screen, but less than a QHD screen) .
The screen used is of course AMOLED. It has a diagonal of 6.67 inches and even refreshes up to 120 Hz. In addition, the refresh of the touch screen has also been boosted. On board we also find a technology that reduces the flickering of the image.
On the other hand, we can assume that the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Extreme Edition will offer satisfactory autonomy, the battery capacity is 5000 mAh with wired fast charging at 120 W. Finally, the main camera of the Redmi K50 EE is based on the Samsung ISOCELL HM6 sensor with a definition of 108 MP and with optical image stabilization. We also find an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera. At the front, count on a 20 megapixel sensor.
The list of other features is an in-display fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi 6E, 5G, dual GPS, NFC, infrared port and stereo speakers. Everything is enclosed in a waterproof casing (IP53). Here, it is a question of a little economy… more important protection would have generated higher costs.
A Mercedes edition
Currently, the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Extreme Edition is only available in the home market. On our side, we believe that this product will change its name when it crosses Chinese borders.
Depending on the version, count 400 to 700 euros excluding tax. The biggest variant is the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Extreme Edition Mercedes, the partnership with the German car manufacturer generates a big additional cost.
