Stade rennais – Lorient : Rennes sombre pour sa première

After a successful summer preparation but largely orphan of recruits, Stade Rennes began its season by receiving Lorient. At Roazhon Park, the Rouge et Noir received the Hakes from Régis Le Bris, former SRFC coach, now FCL coach. And it is with a defeat (0-1) that Stade Rennes begins its season.

Stade Rennes 0-1 Lorient

Bruno Genesio operated a first choice by establishing Joe Rodon instead of Loic Badé in central hinge, alongside Arthur Theate. The two recruits therefore started, unlike the most used player in the preparation. Mandanda holder, the eleven-type was aligned, and the Lorient people engaged, after a tribute paid to former president Alfred Houget, recently deceased. And it was Truffert who first brought danger to Mvogo’s cage. Served by Terrier at the far post, the defender saw his recovery countered. The corner was pushed back by the defense, after a small mess. First thrill. Rennes then monopolized the ball for the first 10 minutes, settling in the Lorient camp but failing to find the opening. The Theate-Rodon hinge was taking its bearings. Before the quarter of an hour, Laborde was very close to opening the scoring, but Mvogo got in his way at close range (13e)! Second clear opportunity for Rennes.

Still solid and well on their legs, the SRFC supported with Terrier, served by Laborde, but the shot from number 7 was blocked for a corner (20e). On the set piece, Theate’s header was not precise enough. Ouattara caused trouble on the right side for Lorient but was well caught by Truffert. Bourigeaud with a header from a center by Traoré (25e) failed to frame. His dangerous center did not find a taker either (27e). Half an hour into the game, the SRFC settled even further into the opposing half and got a double chance. Bourigeaud shifted centered and saw Laporte clear in disaster (34e), while on the next action, Majer and Tait struck but the Hake defense again interfered. At the 35e minute, Mandanda calmly made his first save of the game on a soft shot from Laurienté. While in control but lacking in rhythm, Rennes ended the first period with a neutral score (0-0).

Lack of rhythm and sluggish play

Without changes after returning from the locker room, Majer shot the first arrow (47e), to the side. Burrow (49e) also failed to find the frame on a cross from Bourigeaud, and Rennes too stopped did not jostle the block of Merlus. Laborde from the left fired a shot into the area, pushed back with his hand by Talbi. No penalty for Mr Dechepy. Terrier again forced Mvogo to a magnificent save to release a ball that was spinning in the skylight (53e)! Lorient reacted with Ouattara (59e) whose shot went just wide.

Truffert causing a free and warned kick, Ouattara still solicited Mandanda who was boxing with his fists (64e). The sentence fell shortly after the hour mark for Rennes, punished by an against his camp from Theate, who deflected a cross from Kalulu into his own net. 1-0 for Lorient, against the court of the game. Majer came out in stride for Guirassy, and Rennes exposed themselves against against the released Hakes. Bruno Genesio made 3 changes: Bourigeaud, Tait and Laborde gave way to Désiré Doué, Sulemana and Doku. But it was still on Mandanda’s cage that the fright passed with a post from Laurienté! Rennes reacted with a strike from Doué blocked by Guirassy on a cross from Doku (75e). Always led, the SRFC struggled.

Active Doku recovered on the right wing and served Guirassy in depth, who stumbled on Mvogo (78e). Guirassy still got bogged down in the area and saw his shot pushed back (80e), and Rennes developed a sluggish game. The SRFC got bogged down and Lorient took advantage of each block, not far from doubling the bet by Laurienté (89e). Only Doku gave hope for a draw, on a shot from the left again released by an in-form Mvogo (90 + 2e). The referee whistled the end of the game.

For its first match, Stade Rennes lost at home on the smallest of scores, at the end of a match which it mastered for a large part of the time, before being punished for its lack of rhythm. Sad start to the season.
