The standoff is engaged between the Nets and Kyrie Irvingand in all likelihood, the All-Star point guard is going to pack his bags. The New York Daily News reports that the All-Star leader has obtained permission to find his new team to set up a “sign-and-trade”.
ESPN and Athleticism also got wind of his desires to leave, in particular because the management of Brooklyn does not wish to offer him a long-term extension. He has only played 104 matches in three years, and the leaders do not want to embark on an already very complicated relationship.
We know, Irving would have blown the names of the teams where he would like to play, but The Athletic reports that it is just a smokescreen. His only wish is to find LeBron James at the Lakers, and the four-time MVP would not be against it. Water has flowed since their “divorce”, and they could therefore reform their shock duo.
Besides, when a colleague asks Irving if he wants to stay in Brooklyn, he… kicks into touch.
The Lakers… or nothing?
The problem is that it will not be easy because there is Russell Westbrook. The 2017 MVP will exercise his “player option” at $47 million to complete his contract, and that will necessarily limit the room for maneuver. Either Irving arrives for the “mid-level exception” (six million dollars for the Lakers), and he will have to live with Westbrook. Either the Nets set up a “sign-and-trade” with the Lakers around Irving and Westbrook, but a third franchise will have to be found because recruiting Westbrook is not in Brooklyn’s plans. ESPN explains that the Nets are not interested in any offer from the Lakers… Worse, no other team would consider setting up a “sign-and-trade”…
Since February, the Nets have already had Ben Simmons in the role of the awkward point guard from distance, and like the Lakers, Westbrook will be forced to play without the ball. Not to mention that we don’t know if Durant would welcome their reunion. A Durant who seems to have already prepared for Irving’s departure since he said this weekend that ” no matter what, the friendship will always be there. »
As for Draymond Green, he has already commented on the possible arrival of Irving at the Lakers: “If you give LeBron someone like Kyrie, the Lakers will be title contenders. But they won’t beat us. »
