The Brazilian defender, Ismaily Gonçalves dos Santos said Ismaily (32 years old) is Lille! A talented and experienced full-back with nearly 350 professional matches, Ismaily also has an extensive list of achievements since he notably won the Ukrainian championship 6 times and reached the semi-finals of the Europa League with Chakhtar Donetsk. He signed up freely with LOSC for one season plus an optional one.
Born in Ivinhema (January 11, 1990), Ismaily – like many of his fellow Brazilians – turned to football at a very young age. Trained in the club of his birthplace, Ivinhema FC, he developed his qualities in Brazil before quickly choosing to continue his career in Portugal. After a season at Estoril in the suburbs of Lisbon, then a stint at Sporting Clube Olhanense, he joined Braga (2012-2013) with whom he played his first C1 matches. His performances in the Portuguese championship and in the European Cup caught the eye of many European clubs, more particularly Chakhtar Donetsk, a club historically endowed with many Brazilian talents, which he decided to join.
Powerful left side, recognized for his quality of centers, Ismaily has everything of a modern side, combining defensive and offensive qualities, able to project and be decisive in the opposing area. With the arrival of Ismaily and beyond his technical characteristics which met the profile sought by the club to strengthen the squad, LOSC also recruited a player who has extensive experience at the highest level, with more than fifty matches played in the Champions League and the Europa League. On his left side, he was one of the major players of the Ukrainian club in the conquest of its numerous national titles and its performances on the European scene. It was he who scored against Manchester City, for example, during the 2017-2018 UCL campaign, ensuring a qualification in the round of 16 against AS Roma. Ismaily also participated in a semi-final of the Europa League, lost against Sevilla FC in 2016. His experience will certainly be an asset of choice for LOSC.
At LOSC, Ismaily will find a man who knows him perfectly, Paulo Fonseca, with whom he shared three seasons in Donetsk and nearly 120 matches. The defender was an executive player for the LOSC coach in Ukraine, one of his most often used players. Ismaily will also find two of his Brazilian compatriots, Léo Jardim and Alexsandro, in the Lille locker room. The LOSC continues with this recruitment a long tradition of Brazilian players spent in the North. After notably Rafael, Michel Bastos, Tulio de Melo, Luiz Araujo and Gabriel, Ismaily becomes the sixteenth Brazilian in the history of LOSC since 1992 and a certain Walquir Mota.
With nine seasons in Ukraine and many titles won, Ismaily will discover a new championship. The club is happy to welcome him to Ligue 1 and satisfied that he has chosen LOSC where he will come to strengthen the defensive squad and offer complementary solutions to his coach, as much as he will bring his qualities, his experience and a mentality that sticks to the spirit of the Mastiffs. Welcome to LOSC Ismaily.
“I am very happy to join this great French club. I have heard a lot of positive things about LOSC, its infrastructure and its public. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates. I’m also really looking forward to debuting in my new colors and giving the best of myself. »
“We are very satisfied to have reached an agreement with Ismaily and to welcome him today at LOSC. He is a player who brings together the qualities, experience and state of mind that perfectly match the profile we were looking for to enrich our squad. We identified the need to strengthen the number and quality of the full-back positions and had long targeted Ismaily as our priority on the left-back position. It was therefore important to conclude this arrival and that is what we managed to do, with the player’s confidence and motivation. I also want to thank the Shakhtar leaders who agreed to release Ismaily. We all know the difficult period that the Ukrainians are going through and I would like to express our full support to them once again. We welcome Ismaily and his family to LOSC and to the North. »
