Game News Diablo Immortal: A player converts his fortune from World of Warcraft and spends a crazy amount in the game

Diablo Immortal has been heavily criticized by gamers since its release. Blame it on its economic system, deemed unfair and excessive, which strongly limits everyone’s progress. To overcome this problem, the community nevertheless knows how to be creative! This is the case of this player who converted his currency collected in World of Warcraft in order to spend it in the latest from Blizzard.

Blizzard: “play to win” games?

After his first weeks of service, Diablo Immortal continues to make headlines again and again because of its business model. Players complain and blame Activision-Blizzard for reaping a fortune on their backs with a particularly expensive, ubiquitous and far too restrictive system. Despite this almost unanimous feedback, the game has recently posted very good scores, both in terms of players present on the servers and revenue.

Given the situation, Blizzard has not really reacted to the controversy since the release of its last title. The in-game purchase system is still valid and should remain active for the time being. For their part, the players continue to indulge in the hunt for the demon, whether through the spending box or not. And some even know how to be ingenious when it comes to recovering the precious resources available in the in-game store.

This is particularly the case for daymeeuhn, an active Diablo Immortal player who has been busy converting his hard-earned World of Warcraft cash into real currency to spend in Diablo Immortal. All perfectly legal and without spending a single dollar out of pocket.

No small profits

daymeeuhn had a clear project from the start: create an extremely strong character on Diablo Immortal using his gold collected on World of Warcraft. To carry out his business, the player explained his particularly ingenious approach on Reddit. He used many loot cards collected from various events organized by Blizzard over the years. After using the codes to recover real in-game treasure, daymeeuhn then sold everything and then bought back World of Warcraft “tokens”. Its tokens allow in particular to recover money for its Battle.net wallet.

I had leftover loot cards obtained at various BlizzCon over the years (…). When I saw Diablo Immortal coming to PC, I thought WoW Tokens would make in-game purchases possible.

Eventually, the player managed to raise nearly $50,000 which he spent on his character. A crazy sum, which did not even allow him to unlock all the bonuses present in the game store. But why take on such a challenge? For daymeeuhn, it is above all for the irony of the situation. He explains that he takes pleasure in “knocking off” players who have spent a fortune with real money while he, for his part, has not paid a single penny to Blizzard.

Again, the whole process that daymeuuhn put in place is perfectly legal and does not conflict with the studio’s terms of use. In total, the player has collected 6497 runes after 2165 Ancestral Rifts, which is exactly 48,648 dollars, or 3243 WoW tokens.
