While Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, the capital club are still interested in Rafael Leao, according to our information. The AC Milan striker is very popular with Luis Campos, who recruited him from Lille. The financially complicated operation could include Abdou Diallo.

Two weeks before the closing of the transfer market, Paris Saint-Germain have not quite finished their shopping. The capital club, which has already recruited Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Nordi Mukiele and Hugo Ekitike this summer, is looking to sell several unwanted players but also to strengthen, especially in the attacking sector. The desired profile is a versatile attacker, physical and comfortable in aerial play, who would bring added value to the workforce.

A wish confirmed by Christophe Galtier, the PSG coach, on Thursday at a press conference: “Yes, we want the arrival of another striker. The club is working hard on this position. (…) We must not make mistakes, do not do anything. I know that the club will not take to take and stack one more player.” Because the will of the sports management of the club is precisely to bring varied profiles to the technician.

In the wake of this press briefing, the name of Marcus Rashford was emerging as a potential PSG target. The Englishman’s entourage have reportedly been approached by Paris representatives as the player is tied to Manchester United until 2023.

But at the same time, PSG continues to dig other avenues. One of them leads to Rafael Leao (23), whose profile is particularly appreciated and followed for a long time by Luis Campos, the sports adviser of the capital club since June.

Leao valued at 70 million euros

The Portuguese leader has never cut ties with Leao since the discovery of the latter. The striker, who really made his mark at AC Milan last season by playing a leading role in the Rossoneri’s Serie A title, has the profile sought by the capital club: that of a versatile striker, who can evolve alongside Kylian Mbappé at the forefront of the 3-4-1-2 attack imagined by Galtier.

Author of 11 goals and 10 assists last season in Serie A, Leao has taken on another dimension and buying out his last two years of contract – he is linked until 2024 with AC Milan – will not be easy. Valued at 70 million euros by the specialized site Transfermarkt, the Portuguese international (9 selections) had signed in Milan from Lille in 2019 against a check for nearly 30 million euros.

Campos described him as the “Portuguese Mbappé” in 2018

In order to convince the Milanese leaders, the Parisian management plans to include Abdou Diallo in the transaction. But AC Milan said they did not want to part with Leao at the end of May. “We consider Rafael Leao as a key and untouchable player. He is not for sale. He is still a rough diamond that is progressing. We really believed in him”, had indicated Paolo Maldini, the sporting director of the Lombard club, at the Gazzetta dello Sport.

It remains to be seen whether Luis Campos will be ready to go out of his way to recruit Leao, whom he had already brought to Lille in 2018, from Sporting Portugal. At the time, the current sporting director of PSG had risked an ambitious comparison on RMC: “He is our Portuguese Mbappé. He is really a reference, all the scouts at international level know him very well and I think a lot of coaches do too. He can be the difference in the attack of any team in the world in my opinion.” Four years later, Campos would welcome the association of the “Portuguese Mbappé” with the real Mbappé.
