Clap de fin entre Team WRT et Audi Sport !

Great stories always end one day. This is what will happen at the end of the year between WRT and Audi Sport, the Belgian team led by Vincent Vosse and Yves Weerts preparing to put an end to its collaboration with the manufacturer from Ingolstadt (Germany).

🇬🇧 The end of the story between WRT and Audi Sport!

Between WRT and Audi, the love story has lasted since the team’s international debut in 2011. A page is turning for Baudour’s team, which has won nearly 50 titles with the German manufacturer. There are still a few to go for with the GT World Challenge Europe crowns.

So we’ll have to get used to it, we won’t see WRT in Audi next season. Audi’s stealth withdrawal from the Hypercar program (which goes well beyond customer racing service) has undoubtedly weighed in the balance.

The WRT colors for the 2010 24 Hours of Spa (the #72 refers to the year of birth of Vincent Vosse)

By creating WRT in 2009, Yves Weerts, Vincent Vosse and René Verbist (who left the structure) immediately joined the Volkswagen Group by acquiring Volkswagen Scirocco in 2009. At the end of that same year, WRT took over possession of three R8 LMS to drive in Belcar, FFSA GT and at the 24 Hours of Spa. The mayonnaise between the manufacturer and the team based in Baudour takes very quickly.

WRT’s international career with Audi developed in 2011 with the FIA GT3 and the brand new Blancpain Endurance Series championship. WRT won the 2011 24 Hours of Spa, already under the Audi Sport Team WRT banner, and the sequel was a success all over the world. Organized around Elliot Hoffet and Kurt Mollekens, the GT program can also count on the colossal experience of Pierre Dieudonné and Thierry Tassin, without forgetting Sébastien Viger and Maxime Bonnefoy.

“This is a very special and emotional moment for all of us at Team WRT and for me personally, as we announce that an important chapter in the history of our organization will soon come to an end and a new one will begin, recognizes Vincent Vosse. It could not be otherwise because Audi is the brand with which we have been associated since the creation of Team WRT at the end of 2009 and our only partner in GT3.

I remember very well the mutual excitement of the first contacts, which were facilitated by the Belgian Audi Club and our friend JG Mal-Voy, who is still in our hearts. From there, a fantastic journey began. A fantastic journey, not only because of the many successes, but also because of the excellent collaboration and the common philosophy of excellence and innovation, always looking to the future.

Along the way, we have made so many good friends and shared and enjoyed so many bonds in all circumstances, good and not so good. There are so many people we would like to thank that it is impossible to do so here. By naming Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Werner Frowein, Dieter Gass, Rolf Michl, or also Romolo Liebchen, Chris Reinke, or Siegfried Krause, we really want to extend our appreciation and gratitude to everyone involved in the joint programs over these thirteen years. . All things in life have a beginning and an end and our paths will now part but the longstanding friendships will endure. We can all take pride in what has been achieved together and we will all treasure the many fond memories of this great time.”

And Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing, continues: “After 13 fantastic years, we will go our separate ways from 2023, but we will continue to maintain friendly ties. The close relationship with Vincent Vosse as well as with Yves and Pascal Weerts is characterized by deep trust, sporting values and an absolute desire for success. A big thank you to them and their entire team, together with our best wishes for the future.”

With Audi, WRT has won everything: 24 Hours of Spa, 24 Hours of Nürburgring, 12 Hours of Bathurst, 10 Hours of Suzuka, etc…

What is the future of WRT in GT? To date, nothing has been formalized but you don’t have to be a guesser to understand that WRT will be getting closer to the brand with which it will ride in Hypercar. Response shortly…
