New for “Dancing with the stars”! At the start of the next school year, TF 1 will inaugurate the twelfth edition of its dance competition, hosted by Camille Combal. And the candidates for this new season will be judged by a partially renewed jury. Present since the very first edition, Chris Marques will find his chair without worry. “It has the history of the show from the start and remains the most dreaded note, even if it tends to soften over time”, estimates Frédéric Pedraza, deputy director of TF 1 Production, which manufactures the show for BBC Studios France.

Promoted to star dancer at the Paris Opera last spring, François Alu is back for a second participation. “He has the sense of the verb, a certain benevolence and he embodies modernity, in particular thanks to his own universe”, rejoices the boss of the production company. And the recent promotion of the 28-year-old artist has in no way influenced his return. “He really enjoyed the competition last year and reserved a special place for us in his very full schedule”, assures the producer.

Gillot courted for several years

But he will not be the only star dancer. Because from now on, “Dancing with the stars” will welcome Marie-Agnès Gillot, the first dancer to be named with a contemporary dance in 2004 and member of Les Enfoirés since 2016. A recruit courted for many years, and who had already stood out in “The best dance” on W 9 and M 6 in 2011 and 2012. “She’s a terrific performer and dancer, explains Frédéric Pedraza. And she is above all a very audacious and visionary artist. She was one of the first to push back the walls of the Paris Opera, she choreographed hip-hop, she created her own academy… has seen so far. It’s a real crush. »

Finally, after Shy’m and Mr. Pokora previously, Bilal Hassani will take his place on the jury. A surprise for the one who had dazzled the public and professionals last year alongside Jordan Mouillerac but who had to bow in the final against singer Tayc. “He will represent the new generation, believes the producer. Chris Marques was one of the first to tell us about it. Because with Bilal, the young viewer will have a judge with whom he can identify. He was a candidate who gave us an exceptional show last year, week after week. And who knows well the cogs and the little pitfalls that can be found in this type of competition. »

Denitsa Ikonomova, she will not be a judge… nor a candidate

On the other hand, exit Jean-Paul Gaultier, after only one season. But for reasons of timetable, we assure on the side of the production. “He has a crazy project this fall since he is artistic director of a show at the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin, justifies the one who recruited him a year earlier. And the door is not closed to a return in the future. »

As for Denitsa Ikonomova, she will not be a judge… nor a candidate. “We offered him to come back to the floor but his schedule does not allow him to do so, announces Frédéric Pedraza. She is preparing the choreography for a big film at the start of the school year, and is working on another feature film. “However, “Dancing with the Stars” can count on the dancer with four victories. “She will come back around an event on the show,” says the producer.
