El Confidencial have revealed a new audio from 2019 between Gerard Pique and Luis Rubiales the president of the Spanish Football Federation in which the Barca defender gives him criticism of Sergio Ramos against the leader.
Since Monday in Spain, each breakfast has now been accompanied by new revelations from the newspaper El Confidencial on conversations between Gerard Pique, defender of FC Barcelona, and Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in 2019. The two actors have already denounced the violation of their privacy and Rubiales even described the process as mafia. After the overhaul of the Spanish Super Cup led by the two men, the favors requested for the Andorran club or the complaints against the arbitration, a new document is released this Friday.
Ramos accuses Rubiales
It concerns a message from Pique to Rubiales, sent in May 2020, in which the Spanish defender conveys criticism of then-Real Madrid player Sergio Ramos against the FA president. In the audio, the current PSG player accuses Rubiales of having maneuvered in the shadows to dismiss David Aganzo, head of the main players’ union, the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE). Aganzo had replaced Rubiales in this position in 2017. Pique then asked the RFEF president not to send Ramos’ recording to other people: “For you. Confidential. Keep it for yourself”.
In the audio addressed to Pique, Ramos accuses Rubiales of maneuvering from behind the scenes to displace David Aganzo. “Three or four people from AFE told everything to Rubi (the nickname of Rubiales), even with Aganzo as president, launches the Real defender. So he took them and chased them away. From then on, the war began and now he wants to kill him, because Rubi wants to rule the Federation and the AFE.”
Pique then forwarded the message to Rubiales urging him to keep a low profile. “Damn, I don’t want to lead any of this, any of these moves because I don’t want to get involved and I don’t understand the circumstances of everything and so on, explains Pique. And he told me that he was going to talk to those in Madrid to see what they think about it. And of course Sergio sent me this and now I’m a bit pfff…”
“I don’t know, I don’t know what I can do about it, I don’t know if you can talk to Sergio, but just so you know where he is, he continues. For that, I t send the audio he sent me.”
New compromising messages for Pique and Rubiales, pushed into the ropes for several days even if they defend themselves. “Since I took this position (in 2018, editor’s note), I have not stopped being attacked, defended Rubiales on Wednesday at a press conference. There is a total defamation campaign. “Who does it benefit?, he asks again. I’m a simple person. I’m different from the others, I’ve never drunk beer, I don’t smoke… I can’t guarantee that they will not put a bag of cocaine in my trunk tomorrow if there are people who agree to steal messages.”
Gerard Pique decided to sue after the theft and dissemination of this personal data. But the case caused a stir in Spain, in particular because of the supposed preferential treatment which the Spanish player would have received.
